Presenting ComplaintThe patient has been admitted for an elective inguinal hernia repair tomorrow. The surgeon has explained the procedure and consented them for the operation. The surgeon mentioned that the patient would be kept warm during their operation. The patient asks you why keeping them warm is necessary and what the best way of doing this is.
TaskThe examiner will share an article inside the station.What is the relevance of the findings from this research for the patient and what advice would you give them?
Presenting ComplaintThe patient comes in for follow-up of their asthma, which was diagnosed by spirometry 2 months ago. They were prescribed a fluticasone (steroid) inhaler, to use 1 puff twice a day, and albuterol inhaler with a spacer as needed. They were recommended to check peak flow twice a day; their maximum peak flow was 600.
TaskCandidate must explain how to measure peak flow and counsel the patient on use of an Asthma Action Plan.
Presenting ComplaintThe patient is a 5-year old boy brought in by his parent for evaluation of a sore throat.
TaskCandidate must obtain a history of his illness from his parent and present an assessment and plan to the patient’s parent.
Presenting ComplaintA colleague nurse takes a 30 milligram Codeine Phosphate tablet from the drug cupboard. She puts it into her mouth and swallows it in front of you. You ask if she is okay and she tells you she needs the tablet for a headache. As far as you are aware, this is an isolated incident.
TaskUsing knowledge of the NMC Code, the candidate must consider the professional, ethical and legal implications of this situation, and speak to their colleague about it.
Where will the Mock OSCE take place?
The Mock OSCE will take place online, in your browser, at a URL location that will be sent to you by e-mail after registration. You must access this URL on the day of the exam and login using your credentials.
Can I access the Mock OSCE on any device?
For accessing Qpercom, the platform we use to facilitate the Mock OSCEs, we recommend using Google Chrome. Chrome is free to download and easy to install. If you already have Chrome installed to use Qpercom please ensure: - Your browser is updated to the latest version - You allow permissions within your browser for your camera and microphone - When you first login to use the Qpercom virtual assessment option you will be asked for permission to use your camera and microphone. We recommend that you login to do this ahead of your assessment, you will be able to do this as soon as you have your login information, this will help the assessment run smoothly on the day and help you to familiarise yourself with the layout. Our stand alone scoring assessment solutions are accessible on all browsers that follow W3C web standards so that includes Safari, Firefox, Edge, Opera and Chrome and excludes Internet Explorer which has never followed W3C standards.
